History of the SVO Internet Mailing List:

The "SVO List" was started by Lyle Simons and Dave Compton on February 6, 1997. Lyle and Dave had just bought SVOs, and wanted to communicate with other SVO owners, on the internet, as they had been with fellow Merkur owners on the Merkur Listserver (our inspiration). Thanks go to Roland Zuk for running the fine Merkur listserver!

In April, Dave Compton took over the list mailing duties, because of concern about Lyle's employer wanting the EMail account used only for work related communication. Dave ran the list off his Windows 95 laptop until July 7, 1997, when it was moved to the newly deployed company web server, for the new computer business, he and his partner, Rob Bullock, had just started. At the same time the Turbo Coupe List was started, to fill the void for the Turbo Coupe owners..

Up until now, the "List" was a Digest type mailing, once a day, to subscribers. With the new web and list server up, it was now "live", re-broadcasting messages destined for the list to it's then current 94 subscribers from a T1 connection on the Eastern net.

A Spam attack, and some immature subscribers, caused the SVO list to be changed to a moderated, digest format in late July, 97.

Unsatisfactory Archive and Digest support (none) caused a change in the listserver software to Mercury 32, in late August 97.

The ListServer is live and unmoderated again!

We are now running SLMail, and the list has been up for months without a hitch.

We are now better protected from Spam mail, and have archive files and digest mode.

Over 140 subscribers are currently on the SVO list.
